🔄 To remember is to rebuild or to reproduce? In Fundación Goteo team we were talking about it this week and, although everyone had their own idea, we reached some interesting conclusions. Among them: that you really only learn by building; whatever the result, there is always the freedom to rebuild to adapt our changing needs and desires to this also dynamic world; and finally, that alone we can do many things, but when we are accompanied the horizon is much broader and the very fact of walking the road is already a pleasure and a victory.

📬 In this newsletter you will (re) learn about three initiatives that start from a situation already given, which may seem past and immutable, but are in the direction of giving it a vital turn from the collective: a documentary on historical memory about people forced to build a railway line in Madrid, the creation of a free education school in the heart of an old industrial factory in Barcelona and the creation of a safe and accessible space for exploration, play and bodily learning for the purpose of social insertion in Valencia. An inspiration!

New space Escola Arcàdia🏡

👦Arcadia is a free methodology school built as an association and located in Can Batlló, a self-managed community and neighborhood space in Barcelona. It is newly created and although it currently works with children from 0 to 3 years old, it plans to welcome up to 45.

🏗 To develop all its activity, the construction of a new school is planned for 2024 and, for this, the school contacted the Lacol architects cooperative, proposing a first approximation of how the school could be in the future definitive.

While obtaining the own resources for the final project, Arcadia needs temporary spaces for children from 0 to 6 years old to develop its school project. You can help and enter now goteo.cc/espaiarcadia. Collaborate!

Motion Academy 🤸‍♂️

🍁 At Motion Academy they have been exploring the impact and social benefit of healthy leisure for more than 6 years, participating in a large number of projects and having worked with more than 3,000 people of all ages, social classes and life situations. In 2015 they began to do free parkour workshops in the open air and now, in 2021, they are launching a school in the Malilla neighborhood (Valencia).

😊 As of today, 9 young professionals work at the Motion Academy and a team of volunteers who have been trained in the organization. It is thanks to them that the school has continued to grow and improve the quality of teaching despite the severe blow of the pandemic.

💪 Through their teaching method they have given workshops and classes where they have developed social inclusion and education projects in collaboration with other associations, schools, institutes, town halls and youth centers. You, too, create a safe and accessible space for exploration, play and body learning by making your contribution in goteo.cc/motionacademy.

These Walls 🏚

✊ Several associations have come together in the desire to promote the resignification and creation of a space of memory and recognition in the place where the ruins of the Penal Detachment are located. There, Republican prisoners used as forced labor in the construction of this section of the Directo Madrid Burgos train line in the Soto del Real area were confined.

✏️ This documentary narrates the discoveries and perplexity caused by the director when he learned the story hidden behind the ruins adjacent to a railway bridge, where he played as a child in the 70s. Where only an anonymous poem on one of the walls warned of what happened there.

🎬 With the film shot and the editing finished, the team has managed to get here, and for the next steps they need your collaboration to finance the last post-production processes, finish the documentary and reach the maximum number of people in its distribution.
