General information

Marisol is a fiction short film that we are making as our Final Degree Project, which will be filmed during the first week of June 2023. In this story, Marisol, the protagonist, will learn that she shouldn't be afraid to be cared for and to be loved.

Marisol, a 20-year-old girl from El Salvador, had not thought about the recent death of her mother since arriving in Barcelona. She had buried the last connection she had with her family along with her childhood.

Once in Spain, she will begin working for Mireia, taking care of her daughter, Alba. At first, it won't be easy: Marisol will have to earn the trust of a girl who only wants to be with her mother while stumbling upon situations that will uncover what she desires and inevitably make her think about her mother.

To avoid dealing with her grief, Marisol will build an internal wall and distance herself from the new maternal love and help offered by Mireia, preferring solitude and hiding the truth.

Finally, in a moment of anguish, Marisol will turn to Mireia's arms, accepting that she is still a girl who doesn't want to be alone and that she needs to be cared for.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

"Marisol" has been chosen by ESCAC as one of the Final Degree Projects of the promotion and will be produced by ESCAC Films.

We have been working on this project for 8 months. Although it may seem like a simple short film in terms of budget, it requires a high budget that we could not achieve without external help. It is a very personal project that explores the mother-child relationships of our characters, as well as reflecting the internal conflict of the protagonist when she insists on taking on the responsibilities of a new adult life on her shoulders. That is why we believe that, apart from being Marisol's story, it is a universal story.

Our technical and artistic team consists of approximately 30 people, which means that there will be a significant cost for gas and other expenses. With this campaign, we aim not only to cover these types of expenses but also to have the essential equipment to carry out the shoot and obtain our desired result.

Why this is important

This is the love letter from the director to Marisol, who at twenty years old began to take care of her. Fifteen years later, Marisol has become part of her family.

"A small girl, but very strong, who has accompanied me in all stages of my life. The only person who has been my father, mother, cousin, and sister.

To Marisol, the person who has always been by my side helping me create. Thank you for being my family and being part of my story. Now it's time for me to tell yours."

This is also a love letter to all maternal figures who sacrificed their childhood so that we could keep ours:
For all the caresses. For the gentle kisses on our forehead. For all the "I love you"s.
For all the tears they've wiped away and for the peace they make us feel when we close our eyes next to them."

Team and experience

We are very happy with the team that is part of this project, which is composed entirely of ESCAC students. We have been lucky to work together previously and acquire experience together. Additionally, something that we are very proud of is that all department heads are women.
We want to give our best effort so that this story can be told in the best possible way, and thus make an honest and faithful portrait of Marisol's life. However, in order to move this project forward and have sufficient resources, we need your help!
